Training Certified Fitter

Dr. Comfort makes it easy to become a Certified Fitter of Therapeutic Shoes. Our training course has been approved by the American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics & Pedorthics (ABC) — it also meets the prerequisite education requirement for individuals seeking to become certified by the American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics & Pedorthics (ABC). This course has been approved for 16 Category II CEUs by ABC for applicable credential holders.

Course Overview

As required by ABC, our Certified Fitter course includes 16 total hours of material. Dr. Comfort offers the course in an online, on-demand format.

The content of the course includes the following information:

Anatomy of the Foot: Basic anatomy of the foot and its relation to proper shoe fitting.
Terminology: Basic medical terminology for communication and documentation.
Material Science: Identification of materials common in therapeutic footwear and orthoses.
Patient Evaluation Techniques: Physical evaluation of the foot and identification of therapeutic shoe eligibility.
Common Foot Pathologies and Deformities: Identification of common foot pathologies.

Foot Measurement, Shoe Fitting and Selection Criteria: Using foot measurement tools and choosing appropriate footwear for the diabetic foot.
Complications Associated with the Diabetic Foot: Signs, symptoms and risk factors associated with the diabetic foot.
Documentation: Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) requirements.
Professional Ethics: Your professional responsibilities.

Kelsey Dalton grew up immersed in the foot orthotic industry across three generations of family — from her grandparents’ lab to her uncle and parents — giving her a strong clinical background for education and development. Over the past 15+ years, she has worked directly with patients as a Certified Shoe Fitter, Certified Pedorthist, and Certified Orthotist. A Kansas City area resident and mother of four boys, Kelsey joins Dr. Comfort excited to drive clinical education and build strategic partnerships that elevate patient care across the industry.

Dr. Comfort On-Demand Virtual Fitter Course

The first section of our ABC-approved online class is comprised of several pre-recorded presentations and demonstration videos followed by a quiz for each session. Once you’ve completed all the pre-recorded modules and quizzes, we will schedule you for your hands-on portion. The most exciting aspect of the course is the fact that the hands-on portion will be scheduled and taught on an individual basis just for you (or you and your co-workers if you are working together on-site) with one of our instructors. Please anticipate two to three hours to complete the interactive, hands-on portion. The course concludes with a final written exam. We will be available throughout the process to answer and questions you may have.

Dr. Comfort In-Person Certified Fitter of Therapeutic Shoes Classes

Dr. Comfort is pleased to announce the return of a special limited schedule of four in-person CFts class offerings. These classes will consist of an online didactic portion that needs to be completed prior to attendance of the in-person portion, followed by an 8-hour live class. Our live class day is a combination of lectures and hands-on workshops. Please consider joining us for a fun educational experience!
